IMPORTANT UPDATE:  As of December, 2003, there have been new changes to the field trip requirements.  These changes are not reflected here.  Please check with your school office for the changes.  We will try to add them to this webpage in the next couple of weeks.

2003-04 Guidelines for Student Trips:

 (1)   Student trips are allowed within the state of South Carolina.

(2)   Student trips will be allowed out of state on a case by case basis.

(3)   Student trips to major cities or major attractions will not be allowed (N.Y., Atlanta, Nashville, Washington, Orlando, Disney World, etc.)

(4)  Student trips that require public transportation will not be allowed.  (Chartered busses are allowed.  Examples of public transportation are boats, planes, trains, etc.)

(5)  Trips will be approved on a case by case basis for students, teams, or groups who qualify for school organization sponsored national or regional competition or for students, teams or groups who are invited to participate in such a major event.

(6)  Should the state of alert in the U.S. increase to the highest level, all trips would be cancelled except for trips to events sanctioned by the South Carolina High School League, South Carolina Department of Education or a similar state organization, and then approved on a case by case basis.  (Examples of trips likely to be approved are academic competitions, art competitions and athletic competitions held at other school sites.)

(7)  Contractual arrangements for all trips must include provisions for a full refund should the district cancel the trip for any reason.

Also, remember that Mr. Mike Anthony is the administrator approving all day field trips and is the administrator who will present overnight field trips to the Board.
