Reading Is Fundamental--

Excelsior Middle School held its first Reading is Fundamental (RIF) book distribution of the school year on Thursday, September 15.  Every student at the school visited the library/media center during his/her ELA class.  Each student selected a book to keep at no cost to them or their families.  Two more book distributions will be held this school year.  The program is funded through a donation from Dollar General. "Choosing a book to take home and keep makes an incredible impact on a child, " said Sally Palmer, Media Specialist and RIF coordinator.  " By providing students with quality reading materials and making reading a fun activity, we're helping them build important skills they will need throughout their lives.  We are deeply grateful to Dollar General for investing in the literacy of the children in Union County."

Also helping with the book distribution were volunteers from Milliken's Excelsior plant, DJJ, Dollar General, and the Fair Forest Chapter NSDAR.

Want to keep your research skills sharp over the summer?  Choose a topic that interests you and use DISCUS, South Carolina's Education research site.  Mrs. Palmer will tell you the password to get it at home.  You do not need a password to use it at school.  Take our word for it!  It's a wonderful research site!
