2002 Relay
Congratulations, Excelsior!
Kim Cole who is with the American Cancer Society, presented a plaque to the school for their participation in "Relay for Life". EMS obtained the honor of Silver All-Star Winners.
Parents, students, and staff are welcome to work together to prepare for 2002 Relay for Life. Please contact Mrs. Lybrand or Mrs. B. Inman if you have suggestions or if you wish to volunteer. Plan to spend the evening with us at the Union County Fairgrounds this year in the Relay for Life!

Relay
for Life Jelly Bean Guess Contest
Excelsior raised $193.25 for the March of Dimes 2002 by guessing how many jelly beans were in a gallon jar. Mrs. Sammy Nix in our Lighthouse Cafe had the winning guess. There were around 1068 beans in the jar!
Relay
for Life Canister Contest begins on Monday, March 25 and goes through
Friday, April 26. All students and teachers who were willing to participate
picked up a film canister in homeroom for collecting quarters. All homerooms
competed against each other. The homeroom winner each week got to keep the trophy until
another homeroom beat them. The homeroom who won it overall gets to keep it for a
YEAR!

Tuesday, March 26, 2002 -- Cost $3.00 All proceeds went to the Relay for Life Tigger Team. Each child got a free Disney prize!

Relay for Life Easter Basket Contest:
Purchase raffle tickets for our Easter Basket Contest. Your homeroom teacher is
selling these tickets in homeroom, and we will sell these $1.00 tickets at PTO on Tuesday,
March 23rd. We have two beautiful Easter baskets--one for a boy and one for a
girl. Will you win a basket?
The Easter Baskets Raised $377.95! Thanks, Excelsior, for your participation in this project.

Relay for
Life Bake Sale--We began taking orders for the Relay for Life Bake Sale
on Monday, April 8th. We continued taking orders throughout the week. Mrs. B.
Inman and her girls worked very hard making delicious cakes, pies, brownies, and
fudge. Everyone picked up all bake sale items on Friday, April 19th.
This was our "menu". Wow! What mouth-watering choices!

Relay Dances--EMS
is having two Relay for Life dances--5th grade students on Thursday, May 9th and 6th grade
students on Thursday, May 16th. Please let us know if you would like to donate items
to sell at these dances. The admission and refreshment proceeds will go to our
Relay For Life fund. Dance time: 2:20-4:00
Relay BBQ--Jason
Baker and his dad are barbecuing twelve wonderful hams for our BBQ sale on Friday, May
3rd. All team members will meet at the Excelsior Lighthouse Cafe to chop and sell
barbecue to the public. Please tell everyone you know about our plans. We will sell
this award-winning barbecue for $5.00 a pound Saturday from 10:00 AM until we sell out!
