Union County School District announces that Mr. Joey Haney, Superintendent, has announced his retirement, effective June 30, 2026. In a special called meeting on March 31, 2026, the Board accepted Mr. Haney’s retirement.
Upon reflecting on his service and upcoming retirement, Mr. Haney remarked that it has been the honor of a lifetime to serve the students, staff, and families of Union County Schools. He shared that he is deeply grateful for the trust placed in him by the Board of Trustees and the community, and for the unwavering dedication of educators and leaders who put students first each day.
Mr. Haney noted that the true strength of Union County Schools lies in its people—students who demonstrate resilience and promise, staff members who are committed to excellence, and a community that continually rallies around its schools. He expressed pride in the collective progress made and the strong foundation that has been built to support future success.
As he looks ahead to retirement, Mr. Haney shared his confidence that Union County Schools will continue to grow and thrive, and that the best days are still ahead. He concluded by expressing his sincere appreciation for the opportunity to serve and his lasting commitment to supporting the district and community in the years to come.
Mike Massey, UCSD Board Chair, congratulated Mr. Haney and stated, “We appreciate Mr. Haney and his leadership. The District has made much progress, and we look forward to our future. We wish Mr. Haney great luck in his retirement. The Board will discuss the hiring process for the next Superintendent at an upcoming meeting.
