Building Leadership and Teamwork in JROTC
Our JROTC students recently participated in a team-building exercise called Minefield. In this activity, blindfolded team members relied on clear communication and trust as their teammates guided them safely through a “minefield” of obstacles.
The exercise not only encouraged collaboration but also strengthened essential leadership and listening skills. Activities like these prepare our students to work effectively in high-pressure situations, building confidence and teamwork they can carry into both their military training and future careers.

Let's get to know Mr. Bennett!
How long have you been teaching?
This is my fifth year.
What classes do you teach?
I currently teach Sports Entertainment Marketing and Personal Finance.
What inspired you to become a teacher?
I became a teacher to help young adults increase their motivation and basic life skills. I wanted to open their eyes to different career paths that align with their strengths in the classroom and their interests outside of it. Additionally, I wanted to help young adults become aware of career fields that interest them, while also learning life skills that will set them up for success and happiness in the real world.
What are some skills that students learn in your class?
Students will develop communication, time-management, and problem-solving skills through hands-on projects and real-world case studies, and applications.
What is your favorite book, movie, or quote - Why?
Favorite quote: “Love the process so that the process can love you back.” – Young adults should learn to appreciate all the hard work that was put in along the way as they were trying to achieve a goal. If they do that, they can realize the importance of “the process” in their success and enjoy their successes even more.
Share a fun fact about yourself.
I enjoy collecting sports cards and sports memorabilia. I enjoy visiting antique and card shops with my wife and 2 daughters to look for vintage sports memorabilia to add to my collection.

In the Building Construction program, safety comes first—and that starts with scaffolding safety. Students are gaining hands-on experience in correctly setting up, securing, and working on scaffolding.
By learning proper safety procedures, students:
Protect themselves and others from potential accidents
Understand OSHA standards and industry best practices
Build confidence in working at heights
Develop habits that will serve them throughout their construction careers
This training not only prepares them for success in the classroom but also gives them the real-world skills employers value most—because in construction, safety is the foundation of every great build.

Students sketched their initial boat designs and identified potential strengths and weaknesses before building.
Once their boats set sail, they tested how many pennies they could hold before sinking. After collecting data from their first trial, students reflected on what worked well and what could be improved.
Using their test results, students redesigned their boats, applying what they learned to create stronger, more efficient designs.
This project not only reinforced the iterative design process, but also encouraged critical thinking, problem solving, creativity, and teamwork—skills that are essential in both computer science and the real world.

In the agricultural world, no job is done alone. From planting and harvesting to managing equipment and solving problems in the field, collaboration is key. Farmers, ranchers, agribusiness professionals, and scientists work together every day to feed and sustain our communities.
By working side-by-side, our students learned how to communicate, share responsibilities, solve challenges creatively, and celebrate successes as a team—skills that will serve them in any career they choose. In agriculture, teamwork doesn’t just grow crops—it grows leaders!
