Library Policies and Procedures
Library Rules
1. All school rules must be followed in the library including,
No cell phones
No headphones or earbuds
No hats
No hoods
2. Be respectful of others in the library. Please talk quietly.
3. Be respectful of the library areas. Clean up after yourself, throw all trash away in the trash can, put the chairs back where you found them, and put any unwanted books in the book drop.
4. No food in the library and drinks need to have a lid.
5. If you don’t like a book, you don’t have to read it!
Library Hours
Monday-Friday: 7:55am-3:40pm
On occasion the library will be closed to students due to testing, a meeting, or lesson happening in the space.
Circulation Policies
Books
Students can have up to 5 books checked out at a time.
Books can be checked out for 28 days. The due date will be stamped in the back of the book.
Students will not be fined for returning a book late.
Students will be fined for items that are damaged to the point that they need to be replaced.
Students will be fined for items that are never returned.
Students cannot graduate if they have fines from the library.
Library Cards
Students use their school ID as their library card.
Students can only check out books at the school they currently attend.
Use of the Library Policies
Library Conduct and Behavior
Students are expected to follow all library and school rules when in the library.
Students need to be browsing for books, sitting in a chair, or waiting in line at the circulation desk.
Students are expected to keep their voices at a normal level.
Students are not allowed to have food or snacks in the library.
One student per chair.
If students are not following the rules and/or are asked to leave the library administration may be contacted and disciplinary action may be taken.
Before School
Students may come into the library starting at 7:55am before school to check out books, return books, check out day loaner laptops, and to ask technology questions.
After School
Students may come into the library starting at 3:20pm after school to check out books, return books, return day loaner laptops, and to ask technology questions.
Students need to leave the library by 3:40pm when the library closes.
Lunch in the Library
Students are welcome to come to the library during their lunch if they need to check out/return a book, ask for computer help, use one of the library activities, or want to study in the library silently.
Students must use the outside doors to enter the library during lunch after the late bell rings. They cannot come in from the hallway.
Students must sign in at the circulation desk first thing when they come in.
Students must stay in the library once they come in from lunch, unless asked to leave.
Students cannot exit the library into the hallway until the bell rings dismissing them from lunch.
Students need to get a pass from Ms. Reed or go back to lunch to use the restroom.

Printing
Students can print a maximum of 30 pages a day.
Students must send pages to be printed as a Word document or PDF.
Printing Prices
$0.10 per Black and White Page
$0.25 per Color Page
Reserving the Library
Please email Ms. Reed at areed@union.k12.sc.us to reserve the library for a class.
Technology Policies
Student Laptops
Broken or malfunctioning student laptops can be taken to the library anytime the library is open. If Ms. Reed is currently teaching a class or in a meeting outside of normal library hours students may be asked to come back later in the day or the next school day.
Students with a damaged laptop will only be issued a replacement laptop with no charge(s) if they have purchased insurance from the district. Insurance does not cover a missing laptop or missing charger.
Students that do not have insurance will be assessed a fixed fee for the issue as outlined in the policy during registration.
Students with outstanding fees over $200 cannot be issued a new laptop until they have been paid.
All guidelines and policies set by the Union County Technology Department will be followed regarding the laptops and hotspots. More information regarding this can be found here:

Student Laptop Chargers
Students can switch their broken school laptop chargers for a new one in the library at any point in the school year.
The library does not have laptop chargers to loan students.
Students can pay $35 for a new laptop charger in the main office.
Students can use the charging locker in the library if they need to charge their laptop for class.
Day Loaner Laptops
Day loaner laptops can be checked out by students for the school day and must be returned to the library before 3:30pm. They cannot be taken off the school campus.
If a day loaner is not returned the student will be unable to check one out for a week (5 school days).
If a day loaner laptop is returned damaged the student who checked it out will be charged for the damage done.
If a student damages more than one day loaner laptop, they will not be able to check one out for the remainder of the school year.
Students can only log into the UCSD Guest account when using a day loaner laptop. They cannot use their personal school accounts.
Hot Spots
Internet Hot Spot devices will be available for checkout to students who have been assigned school laptops only.
These devices will be available for check out by students to complete school assignments and projects.
There are a limited amount of hotspots and they will be issued on a first come first serve basis.
If there is a waiting list students may not be able to renew hotspot devices after the initial loan period.
