Through The Bean Game, an activity adapted from 20 Bean Salary, students were given 20 beans to represent their income and challenged to divide them among different needs and wants. They quickly discovered that creating a budget requires thoughtful choices—and things became even more challenging when their “salary” was reduced from 20 beans to just 13!
This hands-on experience allowed students to see how income, priorities, and unexpected changes can impact a budget. Most importantly, their choices reflected their individual values, priorities, and attitudes about money.
These are the real-world financial skills that help prepare our students for life beyond high school!

After graduating from Furman University in 2000, he built a career in technology, specializing in learning and development, instructional design, eLearning development, and learning management since 2006.

We are excited to introduce one of our wonderful educators as she begins her fourth year in education! With previous teaching experience in 5th and 6th grade, she brings a wealth of experience, compassion, and enthusiasm to the classroom. This year, she is excited to bring those qualities to our studnets as she teaches Personal Finance
She chose a career in education because she believes in the power of encouraging and inspiring young people, especially those who may be facing challenges while navigating the journey of growing up. Her own personal testimony of determination and perseverance motivates her to help students recognize their potential and believe in themselves.
Her philosophy is simple but powerful: “If I can reach a student first, I can teach them anything.” ❤️
When she isn't inspiring students, she enjoys traveling through her Wyndham and Westgate timeshare ownership and making new memories along the way. When it comes to sports, she is a true enthusiast—especially when cheering on her favorite team, the Dallas Cowboys! 🏈⭐

On the afternoon of May 20, 2026, LTC Ruzicka, along with eight JROTC cadets and several community volunteers, dedicated their time and effort to cleaning one of Union County’s historic cemeteries. The service project was organized as part of William Reeves’ community service initiative.
Despite the hot temperatures, the group worked diligently to help preserve an important piece of our local history. Their positive attitudes, teamwork, and commitment to serving the community made the cleanup a great success.

On May 1, Mrs. Heather Gregory, our Business Finance teacher, was recognized by the South Carolina Economics organization and the State Treasurer for completing the South Carolina Financial Literacy Master Teacher Program. Students in the Artificial Intelligence class used Arduino boards to design and build mini smart farms that incorporated sensors to monitor key environmental factors. Students collected and analyzed data from these sensors, then used Microsoft Excel to create charts and graphs to visualize trends and better understand how technology can support modern agricultural practices. This hands-on project allowed students to apply problem-solving, data analysis, and technology skills in a real-world agricultural setting.

Mrs. Jolly and Lieutenant Colonel Ruzicka collaborated to combine their classes for a week of American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification training, which included CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) and AED (Automated External Defibrillator) instruction.
The course provided students with hands-on learning led by a certified instructor, allowing them to practice essential lifesaving skills through real-life scenarios and interactive training. At the conclusion of the course, 52 students successfully earned their BLS certification.
BLS certification equips students with the knowledge and confidence to respond effectively to cardiac emergencies, choking incidents, and other life-threatening situations. The certification, issued by the American Heart Association, is valid for two years and serves as an important credential for students pursuing careers in healthcare and public service.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and our HOSA students sponsored a special Mental Health Awareness event to support and encourage student well-being. Throughout all three lunch periods, students had the opportunity to visit booths featuring stress-relief activities, positive affirmations, and helpful mental health resources.
Our FFA program joined the event by providing pet therapy with a goat and a rabbit, giving students a fun and calming experience. Our Guidance Department also participated by sharing valuable information about mental health and providing stress balls to help students manage daily stress.
This event created a positive space for students to learn about the importance of mental health, practice self-care, and connect with helpful resources. We are proud of our students and staff for promoting awareness and supporting one another.

Our students recently participated in an Emergency Preparedness Program hosted by Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM) with support from Union County EMS. This hands-on experience provided students with valuable training on how to respond effectively in emergency situations, including learning essential life-saving skills such as CPR.
